The Center of Reproductive Medicine “Embrions” has been helping families grow since 1997. For more than 29 years, the clinic has supported couples and individuals on their journey to parenthood.
Embrions was founded by Dr Gints Treijs, a pioneer of reproductive medicine in Latvia. Thirty years ago, he performed the country’s first ICSI procedure, introducing a new era of fertility treatment. Today, ICSI is one of the most widely used assisted reproductive technologies worldwide — and Embrions has been part of its development from the very beginning.
In 2025, the clinic entered a new chapter under the leadership of Dr Zane Vītiņa, one of Europe’s respected IVF specialists. She has received official recognition from the Ministry of Health for her contribution to reproductive medicine and demographic development.
By combining decades of clinical experience with modern reproductive technologies, the team at Embrions is able to treat both straightforward and complex infertility cases.
Who Can Access Treatment at Embrions
Embrions offers IVF treatment to a broad range of patients, including:
Women up to 55 years of age
Single women
Lesbian couples
HIV-positive men and women (with a certificate from an infectious disease specialist)
HBV- or HCV-positive men and women (with a certificate from an infectious disease specialist)
Gender selection for medical reasons
Each case is assessed individually, with medical safety and legal regulations taken into account.

Privacy and Clinic Environment
Embrions operates in its own private three-floor building, ensuring discretion and a controlled medical environment.
The day hospital and operating unit are located on the first floor.
Doctors’ consultation rooms are situated on the third floor.
The building is accessible for patients with mobility impairments.
The waiting areas are arranged to provide individual space and privacy. The interior is light and modern, featuring artwork by Latvian artists. The atmosphere is calm and professional, designed to help you feel comfortable during what is often an emotionally demanding process.
“Embrions” Team
Medical Team at “Embrions”
Embrions brings together an experienced multidisciplinary team of reproductive specialists, gynecologists, embryologists, endocrinologists, urologists, and surgical staff. The clinic performs IVF, ICSI, fertility preservation procedures, and advanced gynecological surgeries within its modern day hospital unit.
As shown in the Success Rates section below, the clinic achieves consistently high egg donation success rates, well above the European average. A key factor behind these results is the strength of its embryology department. Beyond the IVF protocol itself, the expertise and precision of embryologists play a crucial role in treatment outcomes.
The Head of Embryology, Dr Vineta Aukone, also leads the Tissue and Cell Center. She is an ESHRE-certified Senior Embryologist and Certified Laboratory Physician with 18 years of experience. Her leadership ensures the highest laboratory standards and optimal embryo care.
Male infertility receives the same level of attention as female infertility. Care is led by Dr Andris Ābele, a urologist and andrologist certified by the European Academy of Andrology, who also performs specialized surgical procedures for men. The clinic offers advanced sperm diagnostics, including a comprehensive sperm analysis package (spermogram, MAR test, HBA test, DNA fragmentation, and oxidative stress assessment). For international patients, testing is organized efficiently to support timely treatment planning.
Endocrinology is another essential pillar of care at “Embrions”. Hormonal balance directly affects ovarian stimulation, egg quality, sperm production, implantation, and overall IVF success. The clinic collaborates with experienced infertility-focused endocrinologists, including Dr Eva Barkāne and Dr Sabīne Upmale-Engela, ensuring that hormonal factors are carefully evaluated and managed as part of a fully integrated treatment approach.
Detailed information about each specialist — including qualifications, experience, and languages spoken — is available below in the clinic profile.
IVF, Egg Donation and Embryo Donation at “Embrions”
Center of Reproductive Medicine “Embrions” offers a full range of assisted reproduction treatments, from IVF with your own eggs to donor programs and advanced laboratory techniques.
IVF with Own Eggs
Women who wish to conceive using their own eggs can undergo IVF treatment supported by additional procedures designed to improve ovarian response and implantation outcomes. Available options include:
Endometrial restoration procedure (PRF) – €450. PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is used to support the endometrium (uterine lining). It may help improve endometrial thickness and receptivity in women with thin lining or repeated implantation failure.
Ovarian follicular apparatus restoration procedure (PRF) – €980. This procedure aims to stimulate ovarian tissue using platelet-rich fibrin. It is considered in cases of low ovarian reserve or reduced ovarian response. The goal is to support follicular activity and potentially improve egg quality or quantity in selected patients.
Oocyte activation. Recommended particularly for women of advanced reproductive age or couples with previous fertilization failure. Oocyte activation may help improve fertilization rates in cases where standard IVF or ICSI resulted in poor embryo development.
Embryo culture or thawing in SAGE 1-Step™ GM-CSF medium. This specialised culture medium is often recommended in cases of repeated implantation failure. GM-CSF may support embryo development and improve implantation potential.
Center of Reproductive Medicine “Embrions” offers fresh donor egg programs with synchronised cycles and frozen donor eggs cycles. In a synchronised cycle, the donor and recipient cycles are coordinated so that embryo transfer can take place in the same treatment cycle. The cost is calculated individually for each patient, according to their specific situation. You can see some example packages and pricing below.
For women who wish to combine their own eggs with donor eggs within the same cycle, Tandem IVF treatment is available. This option allows patients to increase their chances of success by fertilising both their own eggs and donor eggs simultaneously.
Double Donation and Embryo Donation
For couples who are unable to use their own eggs and sperm, “Embrions” offers embryo donation and double donation programs.
Embryo donation. The clinic provides ready frozen embryos created by other patients who have met strict medical and screening criteria to become donors. These embryos are available for transfer without the need to match separate egg and sperm donors.
Double donation (donor eggs+donor sperm). In double donation, both the egg and sperm come from screened donors. This option is recommended when both partners face significant fertility challenges or genetic risks. The clinic manages donor selection, medical screening, fertilisation, and embryo transfer according to Latvian regulations.
PGT-A tested embryo donation. The clinic provides frozen donor embryos that have been screened using PGT-A to check for chromosomal abnormalities before transfer.
All donor programs follow legal and medical guidelines, with careful screening and safety standards.
Treatment and Day Care Unit
Embrions offers a fully equipped day hospital with six beds and a modern operating room. The clinic performs a wide range of diagnostic and surgical procedures, including:
Diagnostic laparoscopy
Laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis
Ovarian drilling
Salpingectomy and tubal procedures
Laparoscopic myomectomy
Diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy
Removal of uterine polyps and fibroids
Mini-hysteroscopy with gentle analgesia
Cervical procedures and other gynecological surgeries
All procedures are performed using modern equipment and minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.

Dr Gints Treijs can really be compared to Dr House. A peculiar humor, but a great doctor who delve into the problem, the team is also professional. I definitely recommend this clinic! Thank you!⭐️

The clinic is tidy, modern, and equipped with the latest technology. The staff are friendly and professional. I had a procedure done and was very pleased with the care I received. Special thanks to nurse Kristīne and Dr Levenšteins for their professionalism and kindness. Inga, the exceptionally friendly, multilingual receptionist who made a wonderful impression. Baiba is also no longer part of the team. My personal experience was very positive.☺️

Clinic has provided the Statement of Truth
We really care about the quality of the information presented on our website.
To make sure that all data provided by clinics is correct - we ask clinics to confirm all data by
"Statement of Truth". The document is signed off by clinic's representatives, scanned and
attached below.
Fresh donor oocytes were used for fertilization with donor or partner's sperm.
Frozen donor eggs Donor oocytes from egg bank were thawed before fertilization with donor or partner's sperm.
Note: As statistics shown in various sources (ESHRE, SART) on average the value of success rate when using frozen eggs may be 10% lower than with fresh eggs.
Embryo transfer day and number of embryos
Embryo transfer day Many clinics prefer to transfer embryos on day 5 at the blastocyst stage as it may lead to better outcomes of an IVF program.
Number of embryos to transfer International and national medical organizations including ASRM, SART and ESHRE discourage the transfer of a large number of embryos because of the increased likelihood of multiple-fetus pregnancies. Multiple-fetus pregnancies, in turn, increase the probability of premature births and related health problems.
Worth to know:
We encourage IVF Clinics to present success rates per cycle rather than per patient. We also ask clinics not to include any frozen embryo transfers in success rates calculation.
Please bear in mind that including frozen embryo transfers (FET) in statistics may increase the overall value of success rates - however at the same time it will increase the cost of the IVF treatment. IVF Clinics usually do not include frozen embryo transfer costs in their programs. That means that if you have any embryos left - the treatment will cost you more than advertised by the clinic.
IVF Success Rates
The way IVF success rates are calculated may vary from clinic to clinic. Calculating and presenting success rates by clinics is a common "communication" issue as clinics try to advertise the best values on their websites.
IVF success rates are usually calculated as a percentage of clinical pregnancies dividing the number of favorable results such as number clinical pregnancies by the number of procedures performed such as a number of embryo transfers, according to the following formula:
"number of pregnancies or number of live births / number of embryo transfers"
You should be aware that the success of IVF treatment is the sum of different factors and circumstances, only few of which depend on the clinic itself. The latter are surely the experience and professionalism of the medical staff as well as offered IVF treatments that allow particular types of patients (with either lower or higher chances of a successful pregnancy).
However, in majority of cases it is your individual situation, condition and medical history that influence the result of the treatment. Your age, genetic factors or various reasons for infertility play a crucial role in determining the IVF success.
Contact in person the clinics you’re interested in and discuss your own perspectives on IVF success instead of studying success rates advertised on clinic's websites.
If you'd like to now more about egg donation success rates please refer to this article:
Here you'll find basic information about the program and the sum of additional costs that are required to carry out the treatment.
The "Additional costs" mean that there are additional costs to cover on top of the advertised program price. You may find these costs in the "Included in program and additional costs" tab below.
Popup - Basic guarantees:
Guarantees refer to number of donor eggs (oocytes) included in the program, number of embryos which are guaranteed on day 3 or day 5 at the blastocyst stage.
Important:
When the clinic offers an embryo guarantee, the basic requirement is good quality partner’s sperm. Usually IVF clinics use WHO standards to assess the sperm parameters. If this is the case, make sure you ask the clinic which particular standards are being applied and what parameters are taken into account. Some fertility clinics apply their own standards. Make sure you ask what happens, if despite good sperm parameters, you will not receive the guaranteed number of embryos.
What does it mean?
Here you will find all the options that are included in the program and those that are necessary to carry out the IVF program but at an additional cost.
All procedures/services which are not included have additional costs that you will have to cover apart from the costs of the Program.
What does it mean?
Other procedures and services that are possible to perform at the Clinic at additional cost.
Remember the decision to use medical services should be made after consulting your doctor.
Refund based on outcome
IVF Refund Program is a term used for financial IVF programs. They give the patient access to two or three IVF cycles for one payment. Usually fresh embryo transfers and extra frozen embryo transfers are included in the price.
A multi-cycle IVF refund program means that the treatment continues until the desired result. It may refer to either clinical pregnancy or a live birth – or until all of the program’s cycles are completed. If the IVF program ends successfully, the clinic will not return your money. However, if you don’t achieve your goal, you can count on a partial or full refund of the costs.
